Miss Rogue's Top Ten Reasons to Date A Geek
Miss Rogue over at HorsePigCow has set out her Top Ten Reasons to Date Geeks, including not only the technical hacks they offer but also the social ones. Here are some of my favorites:
1. You know that competition they have with gadgets? Well, that seeps into the rest of their lives. They want the best new technology, the best new cars, they'll only eat the best food (not surprisingly, I've found out that loads of geeks are also 'foodies'), drink the best wine, they buy the best and biggest of everything, because...
...
3. There are multiple ways to 'connect' with a geek. Forget just the telephone or in person (although you still have that). There are those sweet little ' text messages during the day, the ocassional 'xoxo howz ur day?' IMs, those forwarded emails and 'beta invites' that shows how much they want you to be part of their lives...sigh...a girl gets multiple levels of attention from a geek.
4. Not only can they 'fix' stuff, but they can teach you to fix stuff. I consider myself pretty darn savvy, but since dating a geek, I've become 10x savvier.
5. You always know what your geek is up to. This is sort of related to #3, but you drive this one. You can see your geek check-in with Dodgeball and Plazes, see him in action on Flickr, check into what he's interested in on del.icio.us, catch hints for birthday presents and where his mind is at in several other places (his blog, 43things, yahoo!shoposphere, etc.).
6. When you start dating a geek, you can do a full-on background check of him very easily. The good bad and the ugly. It's all there in a simple Google search, augmented by a Technorati and Riya search. What his ex-girlfriends look like (if that matters), what his accomplishments have been, silly things he has done, etc
.
9. Geeks try a little harder. Well, the ones I met have. I think it's because they are so darned intense in the first place. Or maybe because they feel guilty about the whole attention deficit thing. Whatever it is, when you have their attention, you really have their attention.
10. Geeks are more patient. Whether they get it from sitting in front of computers writing hundreds of lines of code to create a fraction of a program or the t-shirt and jean culture they work in day to day (more casual), geeks seem to take everything in stride. I'm a high maintenance girl and get a little moody from time to time. I find geeks' logical problem solving ways are very effective in getting me beyond my bitchiness and back to reality.
Nicely said. This is exactly why I dig dating geekgirls.

One day I will get round to compiling all the reasons geeks make better lovers :-)

My geek likes these lists, and he and I both think that yours is the truest of all the ones we've seen.
