It's not much good — I typed in the URL of a site I maintain (which has for a long time been the first result of a particular one word Google search). Copyscape failed to find any matches, even though there's an authorized mirror of the site on a server in Europe.

I thought the service was pretty impressive - it found ALL 25 copies of the GPL on the Internet! Good thing they used that as their example - saved me the trouble of spending any more time there.

What a sour bunch. I found two unauthorized copies of my site using it so it's proved its worth to me. Perhaps you need a hole in the head more than you realize.

Copyscape has improved: It found 26 copies of the GPL! Only 15,174 to go.

I just ran a few pages on my site through CopyScape and it came up with 4 sites who had plagiarized my work. I'm peeved about this, but happy I know. Thanks for the pointer.

I also found this site to be very useful and easy to use for finding people who took my content without permission. Regarding the GPL comments, have a closer look - it only shows the top two dozen or so copies of a document on the web, which is more than enough for the vast majority of cases - try it for your own content.
